Which syringe should I pick?

The unit reading is identical across U-100, U-50, and U-30 insulin syringes — they use the same scale. A smaller barrel just spreads a small dose across more length, making it easier to read accurately.

1 unit = 0.01 mL

If your calculated draw is under 20 units, a 0.3 mL (U-30) barrel is easiest. Otherwise the 1 mL (U-100) is fine.

Why does the water volume change my units?

The vial always holds the same amount of peptide. Adding more water spreads it across more volume, so each mcg sits in more units. That's why 5 mg in 1 mL reads as half the units of 5 mg in 2 mL for the same target dose. It changes the measurement, not the dose.

The math behind it

How the calculator works.

The peptide dissolves evenly in the water you add, so concentration is simply the milligrams of peptide divided by the millilitres of water. Insulin syringes are marked in units, where 100 units = 1 mL.

The three formulas

Concentration (mg/mL) = vial_mg ÷ water_mL
Units to draw = (target_mcg ÷ (vial_mg × 1000)) × water_mL × 100
Doses per vial = floor((vial_mg × 1000) ÷ target_mcg)
Worked example. A 5 mg vial reconstituted with 2 mL of bacteriostatic water gives a concentration of 2.5 mg/mL, or 25 mcg per unit. A 250 mcg target dose is therefore 10 units on a U-100 syringe — 0.10 mL. The vial contains 20 doses at that size.

mcg ↔ mg conversion

1 mg = 1,000 mcg. A 5 mg vial holds 5,000 mcg; a 250 mcg dose = 0.25 mg. The dose input above accepts either unit — toggle the selector on the right.
